Locked Out? What to Do (and What Not to Do)
Locked out? Take a breath — it happens to everyone, and it's one of the most common calls we get. Here's exactly what to do (and what to skip).
Do: get somewhere safe first
If it's late or you're somewhere unfamiliar, head somewhere well-lit with people around while you sort things out. Your safety comes before your schedule.
Do: call or text a locksmith
Call (561) 405-1395 and tell us where you are and what's locked — house, car, or business. Lockouts get priority scheduling, and we'll keep you posted.
Do: have an ID ready
A professional locksmith verifies you belong there before opening anything. Having a photo ID handy speeds the whole thing up.
Don't: force the door
Kicking, prying, or jimmying a lock almost always damages the door or frame — and that repair usually costs far more than the lockout itself. The same goes for cars: improvised tools scratch paint and wreck weather seals.
Don't: trust a random "locksmith" with no name
Scam operators quote one price on the phone and invent another on-site. Deal with a real local company — licensed, insured, with a real address and a real phone number answered by a real person.
After you're back in
Ask yourself how it happened. Lost key? Get a spare made while you're thinking about it. Worn lock? Consider replacing it before it strands you again. Just moved in? Rekeying might be overdue anyway.
Bottom line: a lockout is a bad fifteen minutes, not a disaster — as long as you call a pro instead of fighting the door. Learn more about our lockout service.
